Recently Fox News has come under fire from the White House for being too critical of their reporting and has launched verbal attacks against them as well as denied interview requests from them.

MSNBC News recently did some commentary on the bickering and accusations against Fox News.  You can watch the video of it here:  Why Fox News Isn’t News.  In the commentary, they go in depth to explain why they feel Fox News isn’t news and just right-wing opinion.  They show several clips of Fox News’ reporting that illustrate their point.  Yet, MSNBC is also opinionated and don’t state all the facts in some stories.  CNN is reputed to be very left-wing oriented.  They avoided even mentioning the corruption within the ACORN organization until the government, and Bank of America, finally cut their funding.

If you speak with a conservative, you can find harsh opinions about CNN.  If you speak with a liberal, you can find the same about Fox News.  At the same time, intelligent and mature left and right wingers can find fault with their own preferred media outlets.  Realistically speaking, you will not find single source of news that would not have single a trace of opinion. Foxnews, MSNBC, CNN, and your newspapers, all have their own opinions and take on the issues.  Some have their own agenda as well.  Some will even go to great lengths to support a political movement for or against something, such as National Health Care.

Am I saying “Who cares about biased reporting?”  Am I saying “Just go with the media source that you like best!”?  Am I saying “Oh well, who cares!  Give up on the news!”?  No.

A responsible citizen of this country, whether liberal or conservative, should be responsible enough to not get their news from just one network or newspaper.  Read or watch from multiple networks/papers so you can:

  1. Find the whole picture buried in the reporting.
  2. Find all the facts you can.
  3. Form your own opinion!

Only “getting it” from one or two sources is not only just opening yourself up to ignorance, but to simply allowing yourself to be told what to think.
