Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Last night, I went with my friend, Shawna, and her family members, which included two of her little nieces, to see the new film “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen“. I enjoyed the previous film of which I didn’t find to be, but I also didn’t find it to be horrible. Just simply entertaining.
I wish I could have said the same about the new film. I had read all of the bad reviews critics gave it already, but I typically dismiss such reviews as I often disagree with them. After watching the movie I thought it was “ok” but couldn’t help but focus on some things that were really making me angry. Those things were:
1) Specific references to sexual organs
2) Sexual situtations
3) One of the transformers had genitalia.
Why did these things make me angry? Because CHILDREN were there to see the movie as well. Yes, the movie had a rating of PG-13, so why make a movie involving toys that were made for kids that kids shouldn’t see?? To draw an extreme example, why distribute condoms in schools if you really don’t want them to be having sex in the first place? “Oh hey kids, here’s some Transformers toys, now go see the movie” or visa verse. Are they going to put out a transformer toy that has such… things? No, I seriously doubt it but you get my point.
Now onto my take on the rest of the movie.
The character of Optimus Prime was finally done right in my opinion. He’s been around for thousands of years and they finally portrayed him as a wise leader who doesn’t act or say things that are ridiculous or contrary to what such a being would be like. His years of war with the Decpiticons finally shows.
I can’t go into the rest of the movie and characters without revealing the story and its conclusions. I don’t want to spoil the move for the rest of you. So I will say this, the movie had its really disappointing parts in it as I mentioned already, but other than that I’d say the movie was “ok” but I’d say only for a more mature audience.
If there is ever going to be a 3rd film, in this series, let’s hope they get someone other than Michael Bay to direct it such as J.J. Abrams who did a good job on the newest Star Trek movie.
